Deko chooses sustainable air purification at brick sawing facility

Dust control in brick processing

Deko, part of Wienerberger, has chosen to deploy Aufero air purification systems from ENS Clean Air in the company’s saw hall. With this investment, Deko is taking an important step toward improving working conditions and protecting the health of its employees.

Specialist in the processing of ceramic building materials

Deko is specialized in the production and processing of bricks and roof tiles. The company is engaged in precision sawing of ceramic products such as bricks, roof tiles, and tiles. In addition, shaped bricks are bonded and processed, and roof tiles are modified and assembled. Alongside these activities, Deko also develops customized prefab solutions for a wide range of applications within the construction sector.

The challenge: fine dust during sawing

Deko has separated its various processing activities within the facility. In the sawing department—as the name suggests—stone-like products are cut into strips, corners, and various special shapes. Although a large amount of water is used during sawing to limit dust formation, a significant amount of fine dust is still released. This occurs both as solid particles and as droplets in which dust particles are embedded. In such (humid) conditions, traditional filtration systems quickly become clogged, causing them to lose effectiveness.

Test phase with Aufero

As a first step, a demo Aufero system—without physical filters—was tested on-site. Instead, it captures particles and droplets through ionization. This proved to be highly effective, and humidity has no impact on its performance, which also does not diminish over time.

Air quality impact analysis

As a second step, an impact analysis was conducted in the sawing department. Fine dust concentrations and environmental influences were measured at four locations in both summer and winter conditions. Based on these measurements, the expected improvement from effective air purification was calculated. This substantiation gave Deko the confidence to permanently equip the saw hall with Aufero systems.

With this investment, the company is taking an important step toward improving working conditions and protecting the health of its employees.
